If you were to, hypothetically, reduce sneakers to their simplest possible form, for the purposes of broad categorization, you would most likely end up with the low cut tennis shoe, the ankle height hi-top basketball shoe, and of course, the running shoe. The most basic, universal form that the running shoe can take would have to be the wedge shaped, EVA cushioned silhouettes of the '70s. 

Every sneaker brand with a background in running boasts an arsenal of these classic silhouettes, with every individual style having its own devoted loyalists. 

One of these running classics from Puma is the Mirage, which has actually been through several incarnations over the course of its life. Originally a lightweight track and field shoe, brought back in the '90s as a jogging trainer and brought back again in 2020 as pure fashion. A mesh upper features a synthetic leather Formstripe and cutout suede overlays inspired by the '90s Mirage, along with an EVA midsole and reflective detailing.

We would have said it was pure, retro fashion, but that would imply that the performance infused simplicity had gone out of style at some point, which it never does.
